Static X - with opening band - Victory Pill, London. WARNING! Large Images
« on: June 25, 2007, 04:23:55 PM »

Theres always one. That one ignorant little shit on the train who thinks his music blaring from his phone is way cool. Yeah YOU.. in yr poxy Chav Burberry shirt.
How the hell have you got a girlfriend? You are a twunt. Playing yr Hip Hop don't stop, I'm down with the sound.. Oh Yeah!
He soon shut up when I loudly proclaimed "This IS Childrens Music"... Should've seen the glare on his cute lil face  Tongue

First port of call when we get into London is a pub.. and now we know where the Intrepid Fox is located, we head there first.
It's closed.. Bah!! Seems they close Sunday afternoons. Nothing for it... Find another pub. Simple task, theres a lot of them in London.
So we end up in the dankest grotiest pub.. but it's *cough* "traditional" looking. They sell great ale though! Winner!

We decide to only stay for one pint and go check out Islington instead as neither of us have been there before (us being Monkey Boy and myself).
Islington is a nice part of London and the Islington Academy is a few hundreds yards from Angel tube station, which as far as tube stations go, is also "nice".

The Islington Academy is located inside a small shopping center called Vue.
Vue features a sculpture of Angels wings.. I think it looks cool.

As you can see, its a pretty dreary day and most of time it was raining.
Just to the left of the above picture is another pub, it's across the street and we spend the rest of the afternoon drinking there among some other metal headz.

Check the price... £9.00, what a bargain!

We'd been warned that Islington Academy is tiny.. trust me.. It's tiny!
Not that its a problem, I love small venues and Islington Academy is great.

A new band called Victory Pill opened for Static X. The band features former Pitchshifter guitarist, Jim Davies.
Not often overly impressed with many support bands, we were pleasantly surprised by Victory Pill. I'll be checking out their new CD when it's released in September. Details about that later.

Heres a few pictures of Victory Pill:

I must say the first few tracks were awesome, but then either the material became a bit bland, or the band tired quickly. Like I say, the first 3-4 tracks.. great, loved it but about half way through their set it seemed to fade a bit. But to give the guys credit, they did an awesome job and revealed that it was their first public performance as a band. What better way to start than opening for a band like Static X.

Time for Static X.

They opened with the title track from their latest album, Cannibal.

Check out the d000d surfing on his back... Kids 'eh  Roll Eyes

This is without doubt. The best gig I've been to this year. Static X were absolutely amazing. Their live show sounds like a CD, it's polished and powerful. Static X may not be all time greatest musicians.. and we're not expecting them to be.. it's not what they do. But what they do is superb. The Electro / Industrial / Metal crossover they play is heavy, banging and I've not moshed that hard for a long time.

If you get a chance to see Static X.. Do it! They stayed strong throughout their set and didn't wane once. It's the best £9.00 I've ever spent on a ticket.. Ever!
We left the venue and felt we had seen a great show. Well done guys!

Oh yeah.. "y0" to Bill and his mates from Somerset.. You guys were cool.. Bill, you are welcome to post those photos you said you took. Apparently, some were really cool shots. Would love to see 'em.

And "Well Done" Monkey Boy for losing your train ticket.... NOBBBER!
We managed to blag him all the way home and he even managed to scoot behind me through some of the ticket barriers through London  laugh

And here's the finale:

This bloke thinks he's flippin Elvis. Nobody noticed him until he started wailing.

Yea I totally can't wait for Static-X now. And I'm not wearing no leash! And they look really different from what I would expect.
